Happy Father‟s Day dad! This morning I want to consider the role and the responsibility of being a dad. Do you remember the first time you recognized how big that responsibility was? I remember thinking that I wanted to be the very best dad God could help me be. But who would I pattern myself after? Who would be my role model? Fatherhood in America has been distorted and in many ways destroyed. Today‟s message is aimed at reviving the biblical value of being a dad and helping dads learn what we are here for.

What do the words “integrity”, “fidelity” and “faithful” mean to you? They seem to have been lost in our lustful society. It is undeniable that we live in a sexually charged culture! We are to be vessels of honor containing the Holy Spirit of God. The Bible says that we are to be “clean” — that includes sexual purity. We are to abstain from all sexual involvement prior to marriage and be filled with Him! That means we control and possess our hearts, minds and bodies and love others the way God intended!

Have you known someone in a marriage that is really alone. Their spouse for one reason or another has “checked out”. They are managing home, children, finances and everything else alone. There is no assistance, no help, no one to come along side and help shoulder the load, even though they are married. The two who were supposed to become one never did! When we said our sacred vows we voluntarily entered into a covenant relationship. We entered a relationship where we joined together to accomplish one mission and one purpose and that was to glorify God!

Compromise! The definition of compromise is “Making adjustments in your standards, making concessions for the sake of avoiding conflict, to step away from a firm conviction.” A Bible dictionary defines compromise as “Diverting from the Holiness of God.” Our nation and culture are text book cases of compromise. As a society, we somehow decided that God’s “absolutes” were not for “sophisticated” societies like ours. We now live by “situation ethics” and what is “expedient”. In Judges it says, “In those days everybody did what was right in their own eyes.” This morning we can learn a great deal from Joseph.
